Our Purpose in Life

When we are expressing life in agreement with truth — the only thing that will ever make us happy, satisfied, and contented — we are making a positive contribution to the world and everything in it. It cannot be otherwise. That's the way God designed the process to work.
We were not born to be bogged down in stress, struggle, strain, and sacrifice … not born to be plagued with anger, hate, jealousy, anxiety, depression, tension headaches and a host of other psychosomatic illnesses … not born to be trapped in disastrous relationships and dysfunctional families.
Our society was not meant to be characterized by crime, rape, murder, violence, and to be a place where schools are not a safe place to be.

The rat race is not bringing us love, joy, health, happiness, peace of mind and loving relationships … deep inside what everyone wants.
Our experiences in life are what we have created. If our experiences are negative and destructive — lacking love, peace, joy, and happiness — it is because we are out of harmony with truth, God, and nature. It is because of the way we believe and think in our heart.

Some people can get themselves in a quandary, trying to figure out what their purpose is … thinking that they would be happy if only they knew what it is. We would do well to keep simple things simple.
In all simplicity, our purpose in life is to express life in agreement with truth.
An important question many people never ask themselves is: "What do I really want?" At the ego level of thinking, we think we know; however, at the deeper level of our being (where "we live, and move, and have our being," language of the Apostle Paul) — the level of thinking beyond the world of the ego — everyone desires inner serenity, peace and joy … something that we naturally enjoy when we are living in harmony with truth.
When we are expressing life in harmony with truth, God, and nature, we quite naturally do unto others, as we would have others do unto us. Can you imagine, can you comprehend what our families, our society, and our nation — the very world itself — would be like if we (as a society) did unto others, as we would have others do unto us? That's the way Jesus wanted us to be ... deep inside the soul of us that's the way we want to be.
Don McAlvany, author of Storm Warning: The Coming Persecution of Christians and Traditionalists in America, said:
Expressing life in agreement with truth would change all of this. When we are unified with our Father (the way Jesus was and the way he wanted us to be), we are in agreement with truth, God and nature … and we are happy, satisfied and contented.
As it is, paraphrasing the Buddha, we are led astray, thinking delusion is better than truth. Truth is the only thing that will free us from repressed anger, insidious fear, and deeply held false beliefs ... the source of all mental turmoil, suffering, and unhappiness. Truth is the only thing that will free us to be genuinely happy, satisfied, and contented.
Solomon let us know our purpose about 3,000 years ago. Solomon said, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
Keeping the commandments of God is the same thing as doing the will of our Father ... the same thing as expressing life in harmony with that which is true, which brings inner serenity, peace, joy, and happiness—deep within the soul of us what everyone craves. Abiding by the dictates of our ego brings confusion, mental torment and suffering.
We know from the teachings of Jesus that doing the will of our Father is a prerequisite for having peace and joy.
Can you imagine? Can you comprehend what our life, our families, our society — the very world itself — would be like if whatever we do in life (regardless of our status in life, regardless of our profession, hobbies, etc.) we do it from the center of love and truth, the only thing that will ever make us happy, satisfied, and contented? It's incomprehensible! Quite naturally, we would do unto others, as we would have others do unto us—if we lived in harmony with truth … if we loved as Jesus commanded us to love.
If we as a society expressed life in harmony with truth, our families would be loving, happy, harmonious, functional, stable, and they would remain together. The social problems in our society (murder, rape, bombings of abortions clinics, shootings in the schools, divorce, child abuse, drug abuse, spousal abuse, and on and on and on) would cease ... if only we lived in agreement with truth … if we believed and did what Jesus said.
Deep inside the soul of us there is nothing we desire more than to live in agreement with truth and nature ... the same thing as being unified with God … the goal of all great religions.
