Truth is the Answer

Learn the truth! Truth would heal us. Truth would save us. Truth is the way. Truth would bring us peace, joy, and happiness. Truth would set us free from the hidden cause of all mental turmoil and suffering, if only we would learn to be still and discover the truth that sets us free.

Life will never get any better — now or ever — than it is when we are living in harmony with truth ... thus the wisdom of great thinkers:

Better than living a hundred years not seeing the highest truth is one day in the life of a man who sees the highest truth. — Buddha

Time is precious. Truth is more precious than time. — Disraeli

Truth is the cry of all, but the game of the few. — George Berkeley

You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. — Jesus

Our minds possess by nature an insatiable desire to know the truth. — Cicero

Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. — Thoreau

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” If we study the special way Jesus used personal pronouns, we realize that we can substitute the word truth for the personal pronoun I. Truth is the way; truth is the life of our spirit.

We discover truth be doing what David the Psalmist said to do about 3,000 years ago: “Be still and commune with your own heart.” There is no other way.

The word truth appears in the Old Testament 115 times and in the New Testament 109 times. In addition, there are other words and phrases that allude to truth; e.g., "word of the Lord" (appears 247 times in the Old Testament), "thus saith the Lord" (appears 412 times in the Old Testament), and so on.

Perhaps it's fair to say that the entire Bible is about truth. The old myth, “truth hurts,” is false and misleading. That's what Satan (our fearful false ego-self, the hidden cause of all mental hurt and suffering) would have us believe. The truth of the matter is that the truth that sets us free is the only thing that brings us peace, love, joy and happiness—what everyone desires.

Solomon said, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting, get understanding.” The ultimate wisdom is knowing the truth that sets us free.

When we obliterate obscure fear and deeply held false beliefs from our subconscious mind (heart), what remains must be the truth that sets us free.

We obliterate that which is fearful and false by acknowledging it and understanding it. We understand obscure fears and false beliefs by being still, communing and understanding with our heart. There is no other way.

Obliterating that which is fearful and false is the same thing Jesus alluded to when he said, "Cleanse first that which is in the cup and platter." It's also the same thing Jesus alluded to when he spoke about casting out devils.

Truth is the answer, and the answer has been known for more than 2,000 years; it's in the Bible. Truth would bring us the inner serenity, peace, joy and happiness that everyone inherently desires, if only we would be still, commune with our heart and discover the truth the sets us free.

At the spiritual level of being, there is nothing we desire more than living in harmony with truth. At the ego level of living (under the influence of the Satan within us, the source of all mental turmoil and suffering), there is nothing we resist more than truth. Unfortunately, Satan (our fearful, false ego-self, fabricated out of obscure fear and deeply held false beliefs about ourselves) is so devious and deceiving that most people are as the Buddha said, “led astray, thinking delusion is better than truth.”

Deep within the soul of us we desire to live in harmony with our true spiritual self, the state of being alluded to by the Apostle Paul: “For in him we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). In him is in harmony with our true divine spiritual self. This is the same thing as being unified with our Father … the way Jesus was and the way he wanted us to be.

A vast majority of people do not realize they are wearing a mask, pretending to be something they are not … pretending to be different from the way they believe and think in their heart.

Isn’t it interesting how wise the ancients were more than 2,000 years ago? About 100 years BC, Titus Lucretius Carus, Roman poet, understood something about the masks people wear. He said, “So it is more useful to watch a man in times of peril and in adversity to discern what kind of man he is; for then at last words of truth are drawn from the depths of his heart, and the mask is torn off, reality remains.”

Think about it! If a vast majority of people believed and embodied the Gospel that Jesus preached — if the vast majority were truthful — our nation would be the light of the world. Jesus told his believers and followers, “Ye are the light of the world.” We would like to think that we are believers of what Jesus said and that we do what Jesus said to do. Let's face it! A vast majority are not believers and doers of what Jesus said.

Think about it! If a vast majority were truthful, there is a possibility that we would have about 90 percent fewer police officers, 90 percent less psychosomatic illnesses (those illnesses caused by the way we believe and think in our heart), 90 percent fewer hospital facilities, 90 percent fewer court cases, 90 percent fewer prison facilities, 90 percent fewer divorces, 90 percent less of the wrangling and bickering in Washington, and on and on and on …in brief, 90 percent less of everything that is deplorable and destructive.

Obviously, no one knows exactly what the percentages would be; the 90 percent is a real possibility in a society in which 90 percent of the families are dysfunctional. Can you imagine a society free of things that bring turmoil, suffering and destruction? Can you imagine a society characterized by peace, love, truth, joy and happiness ... the kind of life Jesus wanted everyone to enjoy?

Actually, the 90 percent could be changed to 100 percent, if only people believed and did what Jesus commanded his disciples to preach to every creature in the entire world. The Gospel would bring us what everyone desires — peace, joy, and happiness —  which we would enjoy if we lived and loved in harmony with truth.

Can you imagine what we, our families, our society — the very world itself — would be like if we lived in agreement with truth and were genuinely happy, satisfied, and contented ... rather than wearing our masks — keeping up our facade — pretending to be different from the way we are … different from the way we believe and think in our heart? It's incomprehensible.

Learn the truth! The Satan within us is the hidden cause of all mental turmoil and suffering: crime, violence, anger, anxiety, child abuse, spousal abuse, the breakup of families, psychosomatic illness, jealousy—all that robs us of peace, joy, and happiness.

We free ourselves from Satan by knowing the truth that makes us free.  Jesus said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
